Day 2: COOMA – FALLS CREEK
Spectacular and adventurous driving today through the Snowy Mountains and alpine National Parks along “Summer Roads” that in several places run alongside the Snowy River for many scenic kilometres. See the “High Country” at it's best as we cross the Bogong High Plains en-route to our overnight stop in the Falls Creek ski resort. (B,L,D)
Day 3: FALLS CREEK – BRIGHT
First highlight today is a drive to the summit of Mt Mackay, the highest elevation possible to drive to in Australia ( subject to suitable weather and track conditions )! Next, we drive via the pretty towns of Bogong, Mt Beauty and Bright and ascend Mt Buffalo with time to enjoy many short, easy, scenic walks. Tonight's motel accommodation is in Bright. (B,D)
Day 4: BRIGHT – MANSFIELD
Depart after a late start then via back roads around the western foothills of Mt Buffalo, past Lake Buffalo then over the mountain to the King Valley wine producing region and a stop in the little town of Whitfield. Next highlights are the magnificent views to be enjoyed from Powers Lookout followed by a visit to the historic site at Stringy Bark Creek where Ned Kelly and his gang ambushed and shot three policemen in their famous shootout. We then settle in to our motel accommodation for the next two nights in Mansfield. Dinner tonight is at your own expense with many close by options to choose from. (B,L)
Day 5: MT STIRLING AND CRAIG'S HUT
Today we experience one of the best highlights of a visit to the High Country when we drive the adventurous 4WD trail to the top of Mt Stirling for great views over the mountains and a visit to Craig's Hut, where many of the famous scenes in the movie “The Man From Snowy River” were filmed. Tonight is another major highlight of our tour when we enjoy dinner and entertainment at the rustic “Tree House” alongside the Howqua River. (B,L,D)
Day 6: MANSFIELD – SALE
We drive along “Summer Roads” over the mountains via Jamieson, Mt Scene, Conner's Plain to Licola then through Maffra and Tinamba on to way Sale in the Gippsland and our overnight motel accommodation. (B,L,D)
Day 7: SALE–DARGO HIGH PLAINS–DINNER PLAIN
Back into the scenic High Country via the isolated bush town of Dargo and over the Dargo High Plains where the alpine meadows are still used for the traditional summer grazing of cattle. We drive on through the ski resort of Mt Hotham to Dinner Plain where you will see some extraordinary architecture utilising building materials such as un-sawn timbers, iron, stone and weatherboard. Tonight's accommodation is at the High Plains Lodge in Dinner Plain where we enjoy dinner in the Lodge dining room with cosy log fire. (B,L,D)
Day 8: DINNER PLAIN – OMEO – KHANCOBAN
Today we visit the historic former gold mining town of Omeo then via Benambra and up and over the Sassafras Gap to Corryong where we visit the gravesite of Jack Riley, who is most likely the person that A.B. Paterson was writing about in his famous poem “ The Man From Snowy River”. We cross the Murray River and spend our final night on tour in Khancoban. (B,L,D)
Day 9: KHANCOBAN – HOME
First stop today is at Paddy's Falls then through Tumbarumba and Batlow where we stop for morning tea at an apple orchard. Then via Tumut and Gundagai where we join the Hume Freeway and express back to Sydney with drop-offs at Strathfield Railway Station 5:30pm; Sutherland 6:30pm; Wollongong 8:00pm and Nowra at 9:00pm.
